‘CREATE YOUR OWN FUTURE, ACTOR ASHISH VIDYARTHEE TELLS SOA ENGINEERING STUDENTS

“After your academics you have life, what matters is what you do with what life throws at you,” eminent Bollywood actor and motivational speaker Ashish Vidyarthee told a large gathering of students here.

“Nothing from your syllabus will be needed in life and you have to create your own future,” Vidyarthee said while speaking at the inauguration of the sixth edition of ‘SOA Proxima’, the two-day annual mega HR conclave organised by the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), faculty of engineering and technology of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University, on Friday.

Vidyarthee, who has acted in more than 350 films in 11 different languages, said “it does not matter where you come from, what matters is where you are headed.” The actor who won his first national award for the 1994 Govind Nihalani film ‘Droh Kaal’ said “I stepped out from an obscure place to fulfill my dreams.”

Vidyarthee advised the students not to regret if people made fun of them saying they should try to stay relevant and valuable. “You should remain humble enough to take your corrections,” he added.

The event, which was organised in association with Times Now and attended by 5000 students, faculty members and corporate leaders, aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry and help foster new ideas and  technology while spreading knowledge for the benefit of young minds. It also sought to connect campus talent with industry leaders while enabling the students to have a peep into the corporate world and understand its expectations.

The conclave began with a presidential address by Prof. Damodar Acharya, Chairman of the SOA Advisory Board while Mr. Ripti Ranjan Dash, Director, Corporate Relations and Industry Engagement, delivered the welcome address. Mr. Bibhu Panda, Delivery Center Head of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Bhubaneswar and Mr. Souvik Das, Regional Head of Academic Alliances Group, India (East) at TCS also spoke.

The event featured a power-packed line up including keynote addresses by 24 top HR leaders, 12 engaging panel discussions, a project exhibition showcasing 35 innovative projects by SOA engineering students and networking sessions providing a platform for delegates to connect and share experiences.

The conclave focused on present industry expectations, desired skill sets beyond the curriculum and bridging the gap between academia and industry. As many as 117 HR, talent acquisition and early career recruitment leaders representing 100 IT and core industries from across India participated in the event which concluded with a stand-up comedy show by Mr. Vipul Goyal and cultural performances by SOA students.

The highlight of the event was the recognition of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as SOA Deemed to be University’s Most Valuable Campus Partner. It acknowledged TCS’s unwavering commitment to providing employment opportunities thereby fostering a long-term association with SOA since 2007. TCS had offered nearly 4500 job opportunities to SOA engineering students.

Furthermore, in collaboration with Times Now, SOA felicitated 30 exceptional HR leaders and experts with the Talent Acquisition Impact Award honouring their outstanding contributions to early career recruitment and talent acquisition strategy.

Brushing Aside Pandemic, 85% of SOA Engineering Graduates Land Excellent Job Offers

2021 Campus Placement Highlights for Faculty of Engineering & Technology, SOA

The Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), Faculty of engineering and technology of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA)and acknowledged as Numero uno among institutions of higher education in Odisha, has staved off the huge worldwide impact of Covid-19 pandemic to ensure placement of about 85 per cent of the total eligible students of the 2021 graduating batch in top companies.

Around 30% of the batch has received job offers during Day Zero Dream Campus Drive of 6.3 Lakh and with average annual CTC involving reputed companies like Amazon proffering the highest CTC of 30 Lakh per annum. 55% of the batch has received offers from reputed MNCs and Day-1 and Day-2 recruiters.

More than 90 companies have participated in the campus recruitment drive in ITER this year. Besides, reputed corporates have shown their inclination towards SOA for setting up learning hubs in the campus based on the students’ performance. This would result in the students receiving enormous exposure in the industry domain in the days ahead.

Microsoft has extended career opportunity to nine students from SOA which is the highest in eastern India consecutive year while consulting major Deloitte has committed for premium category selection with a CTC of Rupees annum for a significant number of talents.

Reputed digital marketing corporate, Mediamint, has evinced interest in recruiting a sizeable number of talents from SOA this year based on their Centre of Excellence model which could lead to placement of approximately 95% of the students by end of the campus recruitment season.

Exposed to the excellent facility of training programs in coding, technology, soft skills, aptitude and intermittent counseling, students in SOA are expected to achieve their targets and recognized for their knowledge and skill at all levels.

A six-member team of ITER students, who participated in the Smart India Hackathon 2020 conducted by the Ministry of Education, emerged champions winning the problem statement RK57 (Digital Policing) winning a prize money of Rupees one lakh. Another significant achievement was the performance of the students in the TCS CodeVita Season 9 conducted by Tata Consultancy Services.

Besides, the joining conversion ratio in Day-1 companies, Cognizant, Wipro and Infosys has received huge appreciation from the said corporates indicating the best conversion ratio in eastern India.

SOA’s focus being on investigation and scrutiny, it has set up 13 research centers and 42 research laboratories to boost such activities in 22 identified thrust areas. Work of SOA’s faculty and research scholars get published regularly in reputed peer reviewed international journals. The university has 7261 Scopus Indexed publications to its credit till now with an H-Index of 65. Researchers at SOA have so far filed 299 patents while the number of novel gene sequences submitted is 515.

ITER has since emerged as a center of quality engineering education in the east for its qualified faculty members, innovative curriculum prepared in consultation with universities of repute in the world, impressive placement and industry interface.

2020 Campus Placement Highlights for Faculty of Engineering & Technology, SOA

The Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER),faculty of engineering and technology of SOA Deemed to be University, has maintained its dominant position in the domain of technical education with 91 per cent placement for its 2019- 20 batch of students involving major companies.

 30% of the students have received job offers from Day Zero— first day of recruitment—high paying companies with an average annual salary of Rupees 6.5 lakh and above. Altogether 104 companies visited ITER extending job offers to 2264 students this season with the highest salary offered being Rs. 31 lakh per annum.

 ITER, an AICTE approved institution which was ranked 32nd  in the country among engineering colleges by the MHRD NIRF in 2019,  had received the highest number of offers in eastern India from major companies like Microsoft and Infosys. Similarly, Cognizant came up with the highest number of offers to ITER students in Odisha.

 ITER’s engineering programmes have been accredited by NBA as also by the prestigious Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) of USA. The institute got another feather on its cap when it was placed in the 601 to 800 category of the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2020 while its Computer Science programme also figured in the 600 plus category. SOA was ranked 24th in the country among universities by NIRF in 2019.

ITER was one of the only three institutes in Odisha visited by Microsoft this season, the other two being IIT, Bhubaneswar and NIT, Rourkela, for campus recruitment.

 The season which began with global brands like Microsoft and Amazon stepping into the ITER campus in June, continued with Day Zero slot hiring by companies like Microsoft and Amazon Informatica, Deloitte etc with an annual average pay package of Rs. 6.5 lakh and above.

 The Day One hiring witnessed heavyweight companies like Infosys, Wipro and Cognizant making 1164 offers which is considered to be the best in eastern India in terms of student intake ratio. The recruitment continued with other major companies like Capgemini, IBM, MINDTREE, NCR Corp, IBS Software, Expansion, Sear Holding, Ramky, Infogain, Jade Global, CGI, Voltas, DXC Technology, ITC Infotech, Hexaware, Value Momentum and HP visiting the campus.

SOA, known for its excellent teaching methodology and academic excellence, has already launched an action plan to counter the challenges arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. The university’s Training and Placement wing has started its placement oriented programs for the 2021 batch of students with full vigour, aiming for Day Zero session slated to begin in June next.
